about

In this album, Subterranea is exploring the concept of composing music for emerging non-Christian Churches. As spirituality further and further separates from organized religion, a question comes to mind: what would ritual music be like without Christianity or organized religion?
The answer lies somewhere in the Devil's Cellist: Music for New Churches. This album of new ritual music is staring back in time, but with the new perspectives. Drawing inspiration from polytheistic and pagan religions as well as early medieval music; it's a continuously updating compilation of motives and chord progressions that took root in early pastoral and choral masterpieces like Carmina Burana and others.
The collection is available free of charge on pay-what-you-can-if-you-want basis. Individual tracks may also be downloaded. This is not a fixed collection, and it will be expanding over time. .

Subterranea is a music from under the ground: haunting, possessing, earthly, with the sound that has a body and a voice of its own.
